About Us

Ask someone where Vancouver is, and many will say Canada. Ask a Portland visitor, and they might say it’s just across the bridge. Vancouver, Washington, gets overlooked more often than it should, and that’s a big reason this guide exists.

We’re people who love this corner of Southwest Washington. We’ve spent many seasons walking the riverfront, cycling quiet back roads, and wandering through the historic streets of the old city. Our affection for this place never really faded, even when we were tempted by the bigger city next door.

Vancouver sits right beside Portland, so it’s easy to treat it as a footnote. We don’t see it that way. Fort Vancouver, Officers Row, and the waterfront have stories worth telling, and they deserve more than a quick stop on the way somewhere else.

We started this guide because we kept answering the same questions from friends and family. Where should we eat near the river? Is Vancouver Lake good for a swim? Which day trip is worth the drive? Those conversations convinced us that a clear, honest guide could help more people than a few group texts.

Vancouver’s story is older than many visitors expect. Long before modern bridges and shopping centers, the Chinookan peoples lived along this stretch of the Columbia. Fort Vancouver later became a major trading post, and the layers of history still show up on walks around town. We try to tell that story with care rather than tidy it up.

Our hope is simple. We want you to arrive knowing where to park, what to see, and when to visit. We’d rather send you home with a useful plan than a long list of places you’ll never reach. Thanks for reading, and we hope this guide makes your next visit easier.
