What is temperature regulation?
Temperature regulation is the science of maintaining a constant or near constant temperature through the use of temperature regulating and/or wicking materials. The goal of temperature regulation is to ensure that you sleep comfortably throughout the night without constantly waking up to add or remove covers because you’ve become either too cold or too hot.
What is temperature regulating material?
Temperature regulating material is fabric that absorbs heat through an endothermic phase change. By altering its state and accepting heat, then redistributing it back as needed, skin temperatures are maintained and vary very little when near the temperature regulating material.
How does temperature regulating material work?
By undergoing an endothermic phase change from a solid to a semi-solid state, temperature regulating material actually becomes cooler when heat is applied. When the heat source is removed, or when air flows across its surface, temperature regulating material is able to release its stored heat. This allows it to pull more heat from your body and keep you cool throughout the night.
Where does temperature regulating material come from?
Originally created to help maintain the temperatures of space walking astronauts from NASA, temperature regulating material has found its way into products that you can use every day to help you sleep more comfortably.
What products contain temperature regulating materials?
All of the Feel Cooler products on our website have the temperature regulating material.
What is the difference between the three Feel Cooler Mattress Pads?
The Feel Cooler Mattress Pad is our original product made with a layer of temperature regulating material which absorbs and stores then releases excess heat from your skin when needed. The Feel Cooler Gold Plus Blue Mattress Pad has an extra layer of the temperature regulating material making it 40% more effective than the Feel Cooler Mattress Pad. The Feel Cooler 2 Mattress Pad is our newest product with dual layer temperature regulating technology, making it twice as effective as our original Feel Cooler Mattress Pad.
Do I need all of the Feel Cooler products for them to work?
No. Each Feel Cooler product will regulate your skin temperature on its own, however, the more products you combine, the better they will work. People who suffer severely may need more technology to fully regulate their skin temperature.
What products are best for memory foam mattresses and mattress toppers?
Any of the Feel Cooler products, specifically the Feel Cooler Mattress Pads are best for memory foam mattresses and mattress toppers.
Is it okay to place other mattress pads and protectors over the Feel cooler pads?
For best results we recommend that only sheets be placed over the Feel Cooler Mattress Pads.
If my partner is comfortable/cold, will the Feel Cooler products have an adverse affect on them?
Our Feel Cooler products are temperature regulated, therefore the mattress pads will react to each person differently. The technology in the Feel Cooler products absorbs and stores excess heat from your skin, keeping you cooler. If you are cold, the technology in the Feel Cooler products will release any stored heat from the bed back to you.
Wicking Questions:
What is wicking material?
Wicking material draws sweat and moisture away from the body more efficiently and more quickly than normal bedding. By moving sweat quickly and over a broader area, it evaporates quickly and cools you down faster.
How does wicking material work?
Today’s sweat wicking fabrics are constructed of water-repellent synthetic fibers, such as polyester, that are specifically woven to create “sweat corridors” that move sweat away from the body more efficiently than traditional materials. Once the moisture is wicked to the surface of the material it evaporates quickly. This, in turn, cools you and your bedding down more efficiently allowing you to remain cool and comfortable while you sleep.
What fabrics / materials contain wicking properties?
Bamboo viscose and Dri-Release fabrics contain wicking properties.
What is the difference between Bamboo Viscose and Dri-Release?
Bamboo viscose is naturally wicking. Dri-Release materials are manufactured to be wicking.
Will wicking products help keep me cool even though I’m not sweating?
No. In order for the wicking properties of the product to start working, there must be moisture (sweat) as the cooling effect happens when the moisture is being wicked away.
Both Temperature Regulating and Wicking Questions:
What is the difference between the temperature regulating material (Feel Cooler products) and wicking material?
The temperature regulating material adapts to your skin temperature immediately to start the cooling process by absorbing excess heat, storing it and releasing it back as needed. Wicking material wicks moisture (sweat) away from the skin so it evaporates quickly, creating a cooling effect and leaving you more comfortable.
Do I need temperature regulating material products or wicking products?
Everyone has a different make-up and their bodies react differently to climate. For those who sleep hot and don’t sweat, we recommend temperature regulating materials. For those who sweat a lot, wicking materials may be better. To judge what would work best for your, go through our Better Night’s Sleep Wizard and find out what may work best for you.
